Where to Get or Lookup

1. Where to Get Stock Media

1.1. Stock Images

The Big Name Stock Photo Sites

These are all paid sites. You either subscribe to a monthly plan which allows you to download a set number per month. Usually unused downloads roll over to the next month. Or you buy credit packs which are good for a year. Then buy images using credits. The larger the image or more unique, the more expensive.

2. Where to Lookup

2.1. What's my IP Address?

Your IP Address is a unique number assigned to the device you are using to access the internet. Sometimes we need this to troubleshoot security problems with a website or email. Visit this website to see your IP Address along with other interesting information.

2.2. Who is the Contact for a Domain?

What is a Domain Registrar?

Domains are registered at what are called Domain Registrars. When you register a domain, it is only for a period of time measured in years. There are 4 contact records associated with each domain: Registered Owner, Administrative Contact, Technical Contact and Billing Contact.

The Registered Owner is just that, usually the name of the business that is using the domain.

The Administrative Contact could be the business owner, their website developer, hosting provider, the domain registrar, or someone else.

The Technical and Billing Contacts can be anyone and really are not that important.

Use WHOIS Tool to Lookup Contact Info

If you would like to look up the contact records for your domain or any domain, you will want to run a WHOIS lookup. All domain registrars have a WHOIS lookup tool, and there are plenty freely available elsewhere.

Here are some links to WHOIS lookup services we recommend

  1. ICANN > https://lookup.icann.org/en
  2. WHOIS > https://www.whois.com/whois/
  3. NameCheap > https://www.namecheap.com/domains/whois/

2.3. Email Address for SMS

There are times you may want to send a text message notification from your website or your computer. To do this, you will need the email address associated with the mobile phone number. You can look any phone number here. If it's a US or Canadian mobile phone, the service will return the carrier and the email address you can use to send an SMS or MMS message.
