2.2. Who is the Contact for a Domain?

What is a Domain Registrar?

Domains are registered at what are called Domain Registrars. When you register a domain, it is only for a period of time measured in years. There are 4 contact records associated with each domain: Registered Owner, Administrative Contact, Technical Contact and Billing Contact.

The Registered Owner is just that, usually the name of the business that is using the domain.

The Administrative Contact could be the business owner, their website developer, hosting provider, the domain registrar, or someone else.

The Technical and Billing Contacts can be anyone and really are not that important.

Use WHOIS Tool to Lookup Contact Info

If you would like to look up the contact records for your domain or any domain, you will want to run a WHOIS lookup. All domain registrars have a WHOIS lookup tool, and there are plenty freely available elsewhere.

Here are some links to WHOIS lookup services we recommend
